About Tirta Gangga
Tirta Gangga is splendid on two counts, splendidly beautiful and splendidly quiet. Its rice terraces are the sort you see on postcards - descending in steps from the forested hills above town into broad valleys that run North to Gunung Agung and East to the sea. On a clear morning you can see all the way across to Lombok. At sunrise the shadows of Lomboks sacred mountain, Gunung Ringani actually falls across Agung. The eclipse of one holy mountain by another is visible from only a few locations in Bali including the hills above Tirta Gangga. For more information on what Tirta Gangga is about click here.
Karangasem is not the most popular tourist destination in Bali and fortunately has not yet been overtaken by tourism. Follow this link and get an idea of what Karangasem has to offer click here:

The Water Palace Tirtagangga
The glory of Tirta Gangga (meaning Holy Water of the Ganges) is the beautiful 'Water Palace' that gave the town its name - an open air complex of lotus ponds, fountains, statues and baths. The water in the 45m top bath is fresh and cool. It was built in 1948 by King Gusti Bagus and damaged 15 years later by the eruption of Mount Agung. This makes a wonderful day trip particularly when the sun is shining as you are able to swim in the cool mountain fresh waters.

Tirta Gangga is surrounded by some of the most staggering rice fields in the whole of Bali. A picture perfect opportunity!
Candi Dasa (13 km from Amlapura)
Although it cannot compare to Kuta in terms of its beaches or nightlife, Candidasa does have lots of pretty fishing boats as well as opportunities for walking and swimming. Its biggest attraction is the beautiful lagoon that lies at the Eastern end of the beach.Candi Dasa has many restaurants, several shops and is the perfect place to stop for a nice massage or pedicure if you fancy it! Located just 10 minutes from Puri Sawah, this is the closest "tourist" town.
Tirta Gangga is a good base for exploring the east coast of Bali - the temples at Besakih, the Kintamani volcano and the Bali Aga village of Tenganan all make easy day trips.

Amlapura (7km south of Tirta Gangga)
Originally called Karangaesm, this sleepy provincial town was renamed after it
almost went up in Smoke when Mount Agung erupted in 1963, killing several hundred inhabitants. This quiet market is full of culture and the perfect opportunity to sample a real Balinese market. The town is quaint and bustling with locals particularly in the morning.
Amed
Amed is less than an hour away from Tirta Gangga and is a splendid place to visit for those who like diving and snorkeling. There are many enchanting
bays that make up the Amed area. Held back until recently by bad roads and lack of power and communications; this is Bali's newest developing area with accommodation increasing six-fold in the last few years. This is also an opportunity for those to who seek nightlife to experience some live music during most evenings especially in peak season.
